Join our session to explore strategies and discuss best practices and examples from UTSA courses. 

Week 1 - Course Overview and Introduction

Guest Speaker: Chair for the Department of Communication Dr. Paul LeBlanc

Do your students understand the course expectations and are able to navigate the course? During this workshop you will explore some strategies to make instructions clear, communicate the purpose and the structure of your course and set expectations. These elements are part of the Quality Matters standards (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4).

Week 2 - Course and Module/Unit-Learning Objectives

How can you tell if your students have mastered what you asked them to do in your course? You create Learning Objectives! In this workshop we will explore how to craft Course-level Learning Objectives and Module/Unit-level learning objectives that describe outcomes that are measurable. This element is part of the Quality Matters standards (2.1, 2.2).

Week 3 - Accessibility and Usability

Accessibility is not only important, it’s the law. During this last week, we underscore how to implement Accessibility from the beginning of developing your course, instead of as an afterthought. This element is part of the Quality Matters standards (8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 8.5, and 8.6).

Week 4 - Assessment and Measurement

Assessments are integral to the learning process and designed to evaluate how students’ progress in a course. In this session, we talk about how to implement assessments so they correspond with learning objectives while allowing learner’s to track their progress. This element is part of the Quality Matters standards (3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, and 3.5).

Week 5 - Instructional Materials

The instructional material we use in our courses are important for allowing students to achieve the learning objectives set by the instructor in the course. This week we dive into how to do this. This element is part of the Quality Matters standards (4.1, 4.2, and 4.5).

Week 6 - Learning Activities and Leaner Interaction

Selecting the right learning activities will lead to more student interaction and engagement. Join us as we learn about incorporating interaction and engagement. This element is part of the Quality Matters standards (5.1, 5.2, 5.3, and 5.4).

Week 7 - Learner Support

How can we best support our students? This week the discussion is centered on various ways for students to access UTSA’s institutional support services which are essential to their success. This element is part of the Quality Matters standards (7.1, 7.2, 7.3, and 7.4).

Week 8 - Course Technology

Course tools! The tools you select and utilize in your courses are important in that they should always support the leaning objectives, while engaging students. This element is part of the Quality Matters standards (6.1, 6.2, 6.3, and 6.4).
